The Technical Conference Program Committee has been meeting on a regular basis to plan this year’s speaking program. Technical sessions covering measurement of degree of cure, latest technology for tack measurement, Update on OSHA/HazCom regulations, sustainable pigments, color measurement are currently scheduled. Based on member inquiries NAPIM has developed an informational bulletin covering state legislative activity on restriction of inks using pigments with inadvertent polychlorinated biphenyl (iPCB) content.

NAPIM has been in regulator contact with U.S. FDA’s office of Food Safety and Applied Nutrition. On January 25, 2024, NAPIM responded to FDA’s request for information related to the use of photo initiators in food packaging applications. The information developed by the NAPIM Food Packaging Safety Committee was submitted in hard copy form as confidential business information to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The NAPIM EHS Committee has been meeting on a regular basis to develop employee safety and health improvements/recommendations and discuss regulatory compliance issues. The February 8, 2024 meeting featured an expert speaker on proposed labeling and safety data sheet (SDS) changes to OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard. The revised rule is currently under review by the U.S. Office of Management and Budget – the final review phase prior to implementation of the revised rule.

The NAPIM Management Information Committee is finalizing its program for the quarterly collection of U.S. ink sales data. The NAPIM/U.S. data collection program is designed to be similar to the data collection program used by the European Printing Ink Association (EuPIA).

Data from the U.S. Bureau of Census - Trade Data shows full year 2023 printing ink import and export data shows printing ink exports down (17%) and printing ink imports down (15%) year on year.
