President's Letter: May 2023

By Geoff Peters, NAPIM President

Dear members,

I want to take the time to tell you how incredibly humbled and honored I am to write to you as NAPIM’s next President. My sincere thanks to Gregg Dahleen for his leadership over the years. Gregg has led our organization with fervent care, displaying a tenacity like no other. As an association, we’ve gone through a few transitions. Thank you, Gregg, for leading us confidently and without interruption through some of these major milestones. You have my promise that I will do my absolute best to carry the torch as gracefully and steadfast as you did.

To my fellow board members and the NAPPIM community, I am looking forward to serving you as your President. My term commenced with our Spring Annual Convention this past March. We had over 120 members and non-members show up for an incredible 3 days of education, roundtable discussions, networking, and outings. Ninety five percent of respondents on the post-convention survey said the event met or exceeded their expectations. The feedback was very positive from attendees. I want to personally thank our speakers, sponsors, and the team at Kellen for facilitating a wonderful event. Also, congratulations to our distinguished award recipients. Your influence on the industry is invaluable.

As I read through the testimonials and feedback received, I was overtaken by a renewed sense of excitement for what lies ahead. Spring marks the beginning of new growth and budding enthusiasm. The success of our Annual Convention is just a snapshot of what’s to come. It was nice having so many of our colleagues gather under one roof to provide and glean value from one another.

My colleague and friend, John Hardlick, said it best, “The NAPIM Convention has always been a means for our industry leaders to gather together and build relationships that will strengthen the industry, even though we are competitors.” John is absolutely right! Competitors albeit, but all of us are “one” in the industry. And this is why we do what we do!

With this said, we have another fantastic opportunity to gather as “one” in the industry. I want to encourage you to join us for our 2023 Summer Course that is taking place on July 17–21 at the Sonoco Institute of Packaging Design and Graphics at Clemson University. Registration is open, and I am excited to unveil this year’s course topics.

The planning committee and NAPIM leadership have been working hard on the course schedule to include the expansion of digital ink coverage and hands-on-sessions demonstrating the formulation and construction of an ink system. We will cover everything from print processes 101 to more advanced technologies and applications. The deadline to register for the Summer Course is July 10. Please visit napim.org/summer ‎to sign up.

Lastly, I want to remind you that NAPIM offers resources throughout the year for continuous learning and growing opportunities. On May 23, you are invited to join us for a technical and regulatory update. George Fuchs, NAPIM’s Director of Regulatory Affairs, will abreast attendees on current technical and regulatory issues and association-wide activities. Please consider registering and joining us for this informative webinar.

Again, thank you for your ongoing support of NAPIM. I am truly looking forward to what 2023 has in store.

Sincerely,

Geoff Peters, President
