2023 Summer Course Wrap-up

The 2023 Summer Course at the Sonoco Institute – Clemson University was a sell-out event with 47 attendees!  This perennially popular, immersion-type course has been educating printing ink and graphic arts and coatings professionals since the 1950’s. Every year the NAPIM Technical Board carefully reviews the structure and content of the course to ensure that it continues to provide the high-quality, educational and training experience for which it is well known. Despite a rigorous and somewhat demanding schedule this course always receives high marks from attendees as it provides an excellent balance between classroom instruction and hands-on training and demonstrations. The course is designed to appeal to and is attended by a wide range of professionals including formulators, technical sales, printers, converters, brands, etc. 

 The 2023 Summer Course added instructional sessions on industrial digital ink covering both formulation issues and pressroom applications. In addition, this year’s syllabus included a hands-on demonstration of water-based ink formulation.  A lab-scale demonstration that accurately reflected the unit operations, weighing, testing, etc. used in a printing ink production environment.  The on-site formulated ink is used for the full-scale flexographic press demonstrations.       

 This year’s course also included group dinners and evening instructional sessions offering increased educational and networking opportunities.  

The 2023 Course continued a long tradition of state of the art, one-of-a-kind, technical education for graphic arts professionals in all areas.
